I had the opportunity to visit Florida last week with my family (nice place to be in January, I must say!). While there, we got to stand on the beach along the Gulf of Mexico and gaze upon the vast body of water. All I could think about as I stood on the beach (other than how ecstatic I was to be barefooted and without a winter coat on in January), was how great God's love for us is. I thought about the inspirational hymn:
How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son,
To make a wretch His treasure.
To think of God's love, deeper than the sea. How awesome is that!
I heard a preacher once tell this story:
A sailor went to sea with an anchor and a long rope with the intent to measure how deep the sea is. He dropped the rope in, and was surprised to see it was too short to reach the bottom of the sea. He took out his journal and recorded the length of the rope and next to it wrote that the sea was "deeper than that". The next day, he brought with him a longer rope and repeated his experiment only to find his rope was still too short. He recorded the length of the rope in his journal and next to it that the sea was "deeper than that." The following day, he brought a rope that was longer that the previous two combined and found that it was still too deep to reach the bottom of the sea. The length was recorded in his journal and next to it, yet again, he wrote that the sea was "deeper than that."
How deep is the Father's love?
Deeper than that.
Just as we can compare God's great love to the vastness of the sea, so is the great depths which our sins have been cast as Micah 7 states. Praise Him they have been cast to such an unreachable depth! No use even trying to fish 'em out!
Thank You Lord, for Your deep love for me,
And for casting my sins to the depths of the sea!
